Most people are not aware of the methods used in handling discus shipment when it arrives. There are a lot of methods one can adopt to acclimitize their new arrival, but I found this method as the best.
Step 1: One you have received your shipment from your supplier, remove all the fish bags from the polysterene boxes that the fish came in. |
Step 2:Untie the bags and release the fish into the polysterene boxes. Remember not to mix fish from different boxes. |
Step 3:After all the fish bags are untied and fish released in the boxes, fill water from tanks into the boxes. |
Step 4: Remember to use aeration in each box. Fill water from the tank into the boxes using a hose until it is 3/4 full. |
Step 5:Scoop 1/2 of the water from the box and refill the boxes with water until it is again 3/4 full. |
Step 6:Repeat step 4 & 5 until the water is clean, then transfer the fish from the box to the tanks using a net. |
Step 7:If you do all the steps right, all the fish will start swimming around in the tanks and will look healthy. |
Step 8:Finally, add some non-iodium salt to help balance the osmotic level of the fish with the new environment. |
